Mrs. Sylvia Kaminetsky, A"H

Mrs. Sylvia Kaminetsky, A"H

Sylvia Kaminetsky, of blessed memory, beloved wife of Irving, may he live and be well, was a true community icon for almost 50 years. Her impact was felt across the entire community, but foremost in the North Woodmere community where she lived together with her dear husband, Irving, who serves as Sanitation Commissioner for District #1. It is there in her home on Cliffside Avenue, that she and Irving raised a wonderful family.

Sylvia was community-minded and devoted her life to helping and caring for others and making the five towns community a better place to live. She served as President of Franklin General Hospital auxiliaries and was vital in the efforts to ensure that its services would be up to the highest standard of medical care. She was involved in local Republican party politics, as the President of the local Republican Club, and even during her unfortunately terminal illness, she mustered all her strength in order to go to the voting polls for she also was as a watcher to ensure the integrity of the elections.

Everybody who knew Sylvia enjoyed her company whether it be playing Ma Jong or golf. She was always a giving, kind-hearted "team player". She had a tremendous passion for reading intelligent conversation which was educated and erudite.

She was proud of her Yiddishkeit and lovingly celebrated all of the Yomim Tovim and other Jewish events in the community with zest and enthusiasm. Together with her husband she attended almost every single concert on the lawn function that benefited Yeshiva of South Shore and was very active as a board member of Temple Hillel in North Woodmere as well as various causes in support of the State of Israel including Israel Bonds, Red Mogen Dovid who honored her, and as a member of Young Israel of North Woodmere.

She will be sorely missed by all her friends and neighbors whose lives she impacted with her kindness, compassion, and work on their behalf.

Yeshiva of South Shore is proud to establish the Sylvia Kaminetsky Scholarship in her memory in support of Jewish Education.
